The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has released a response letter regarding the department’s proposed construction of a roundabout at the intersection of State Route 197 and State Route 385 in Clarkesville.

Community Sips and Strolls in Clarkesville

The annual Sip and Stroll event was held Friday in downtown Clarkesville, where members of the community had a chance to roam the streets with alcoholic beverages and listen to live bands perform at both ends of the square.

Peyton named new publisher of The Northeast Georgian

Jeffrey M. Peyton has been named publisher of The Northeast Georgian, replacing longtime publisher Alan NeSmith, who was recently promoted to chairman of Community Newspapers, Inc. Peyton, 54, brings decades of newspaper experience to Habersham County.

CASA team works to support children

Four hundred children in the Northeast Georgia region – 39 in Habersham County – are victims of neglect and family separation. This unsettling statistic is one Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Director Melissa Mitchell and her team of volunteers aim to remedy despite limited human resources.

Angela Lee flashed a giant smile when her name was called out of the dead silence of a packed house at Raider Stadium on Friday night. Lee was crowned the 2021 homecoming queen after being escorted to the field by her father Rick, who wore an equally proud smile of his own.

Veterans jamboree

Grant-Reeves VFW Post 7720 had a record turnout Saturday for its Veterans Jamboree, an event that began years ago at the Cornelia Community House and expanded over time.
