Habersham County took the opportunity to remember the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks in many ways Saturday.

County hopes for clear 10-4 on radio system

Habersham County is close to finding out how much its new radio system is going to cost, and county officials cannot afford to get this purchase wrong. The county has a bond on three of its SPLOST VII projects , including $7.2 million allocated for the much-needed radio system.

Demorest taps Knight as permanent fire chief

Jonathan Knight was approved by the Demorest City Council to have the interim tag removed and officially become the city’s fire chief. Knight replaced Ken Ranalli, who served in the role for 10 years before resigning June 1.

HEAT Unit honored for its success with DUI enforcement

Habersham County Sheriff’s Office and its Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic (HEAT) Unit won three major awards at the Golden Shield Honors. The awards are sponsored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving and are given for enforcement and prevention of drunk driving.

Attorney indicted in alleged forgeries

Cornelia attorney Paul Jason “Jake” York, 42, was indicted by a grand jury on four counts Wednesday stemming from a case last year where he was accused of forging the signatures of an assistant district attorney and a judge on court documents.
