Arson ruled in restaurant bathroom fire

   Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced Wednesday that a recent Habersham County restaurant fire has been ruled an act of arson.    The fire was reported to local authorities just before 6:45 p.m.

Fifth slab underway for Veterans Wall of Honor

   After 20 years of continuous fundraising, the Habersham County Wall of Honor Committee hopes to reveal the fifth and final wall by Veterans Day.    The park, located across from Ethicon in Cornelia, honors local veterans going back to the French and Indian War.

Habersham County eyes new prospects for interim manager

   Habersham County’s Board of Commissioners will take another shot at picking an interim county manager and a clerk at a special called meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday.    The commissioners declined to name an interim county manager after interviewing three candidates before their June 28 meeting.

   Mordecai Wilson has spent nearly a century serving his country, family and community.    After graduating high school, Wilson left his small hometown of Bidwell, Ohio, and headed north to Boston on a Greyhound bus.

Demorest City Council picked ADC Construction out of Greenville, S.C., to undertake the design of the Demorest Springs Park renovation.

Cornelia officer fires at car with baby inside

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into a Tuesday night officer-involved shooting in Cornelia involving an infant. The officer, whose name has not been released, is on paid administrative leave during the investigation.

Veteran investigator fired after alleged DUI

A Habersham County Sheriff’s investigator and 22-year veteran of the force was fired Tuesday after he wrecked his patrol truck and was charged with driving under the influence.
