Braves commit $100K to Boys & Girls Club

The Tim Lee Boys & Girls Club of Habersham County is nearing its fundraising goal of $1 million thanks to a boost from the Atlanta Braves.
The post, commanded by Bill Miles (pictured), celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2016. The group will move to the old Office Pro building on Highway 441 in Cornelia starting July 1.

VFW finds new home in Cornelia

Grant-Reeves VFW Post 7720 will finally have a new home starting July 1. The veterans organization has leased the old Office Pro building off Highway 441 in Cornelia. The post building suffered fire damage a little more than a year ago and was not able to be salvaged.

Four apply to be interim county manager

The Habersham County Board of Commissioners will interview four candidates for the job of interim county manager at a special called meeting Monday, June 28. The interviews will begin at a closed meeting at 3:30 p.m. Monday before the final budget meeting at 6 p.m. that night.

It started in 2015, when Judy Wells suffered a violent and unexpected seizure for the first time. She went to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where she was prescribed regular preventative seizure medication. Three weeks later, Judy felt numbness in her legs and she returned to the hospital.

Student, teacher went on their educational journey together

Starting pre-k at Baldwin Elementary School as a first-generation student of Mexican background in 2004 meant that, unlike other students, Maricruz Flores couldn’t rely on family members to guide her through the American school system.
