Habersham County holds budget reading

The Habersham County Board of Commissioners held the first reading of their Fiscal Year 2020-2021 budget and 2020 proposed millage rate on Wednesday evening with a presentation by Finance Director Heidi Hook. During Hook’s presentation she said the budget will increase from $23.6 million to $24.

Basement fire damages VFW post

The Cornelia Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of a small basement fire at the Grant-Reeves VFW Post 7720. According to VFW Post 7720 Commander Bill Miles, at around 7:15 p.m. during a Sons of the Confederacy meeting at the post, members noticed the smell of an electrical fire.
