Habersham Central High School prom canceled

Habersham Central High School had plans to kick off a week of senior activities at the end of July with a prom, but Principal Jonathan Stribling canceled those plans Tuesday.
Graduation is still scheduled for July 31 at Raider Stadium for now.

Hatchett, Hall gathering their support for District 50 runoff

Bo Hatchett picked up the support of at least two of his former political foes this week, as fellow Habersham County attorney Tricia Hise and Andy Garrison of Jackson County endorsed him in the Aug. 11 runoff against Stacy Hall for the State Senate’s 50th District.

Crowds were heavy at Panther Creek on Fourth of July weekend, including some cars that were towed for being illegally parked.
Busy holiday weekend for hikers, tow trucks

Some patrons of Panther Creek had a rough holiday weekend visit to Habersham County.
A seemingly endless parade of tow trucks has been making the trip from Panther Creek to Cornelia the last two weekends with cars that could not park safely on the side of Historic Highway 441 while hiking.

The Chattahoochee Mountain Fair returned 2019 to the Habersham County Fairgrounds, but it will not be held this year, according to current COVID-19 guidelines.

For the first time in its 45-year history, the Chattahoochee Mountain Fair will be canceled.
The cancellation is due to current COVID-19 restrictions in place statewide by order of Gov. Brian Kemp, urging at-risk populations to shelter in place until Aug.

Cornelia to consider an entertainment district

When having fun in groups is finally safe and legal again, Cornelia wants to be ready.
The city heard a proposal last month from Heath Barrett, Chairman of the Downtown Development Authority Board, about setting up part of the downtown area as an entertainment district.
