National Guard will return Monday for second attempt on COVID-19 testing at Habersham Home

   The National Guard will come back to Habersham Medical Center’s nursing home at 9 a.m. Monday for a second attempt at testing residents and staff for COVID-19.    National Guard personnel came to Habersham Home on Saturday, May 2, but they were unable to complete the tests.

   Former Demorest police chief Robin Krockum is more than ready to return to his leadership role, according to his attorney Tom Kirkbride who is representing him on the matter of his termination on April 16.     “Robin is ecstatic and he feels vindicated in this.

Chick-fil-A helps lead appreciation for school nutrition workers

   The appreciation kept coming Friday for the nutrition workers at Woodville Elementary.    First it was a care package from the Habersham Retired Educators Association, then it was parents bringing milkshakes, then young kids saying thank you.

ELECTION 2020: District 1 county commission candidates answer questions

   With Habersham County Chairman Stacy Hall vacating his seat at the end of this term to run for the Georgia Senate, there will be a new commissioner in District 1 for the next four years.    There are three candidates vying for that position – Jeffery Lunsford, Benny Pate and Bruce Palmer.

Mountain Laurel Festival pushed back to September

   For the first time since 1962, the City of Clarkesville postponed the annual Mountain Laurel Festival until Sept. 12 due to concerns over COVID-19.

Demorest officials try to get on the same page

   As the Demorest City Council prepared to meet Tuesday night, more polarizing issues came to light Friday as the more than three-week controversy that began with the firing of former Police Chief Robin Krockum expanded.

Signs, drawings honor Habersham's medical heroes

   There are a lot of heroes in the current COVID-19 pandemic. Among the most important are workers in the medical field, those who are on the “front lines,” providing healthcare and putting themselves at risk of exposure to the virus.
