Wilbros dumping permits in order, expire Dec. 31

   Two weeks after the Habersham County Board of Commissioners sent a letter to the Georgia Department of Agriculture addressing concerns regarding Wilbros LLC’s injection of soil amendments to a farm in Clarkesville, GDA is starting to provide some more insight.

Anthem talks getting closer, public hearing cancelled

   Members of the state Senate announced Saturday that the Monday morning public hearing regarding the agreement between Anthem and Northeast Georgia Health System was cancelled as both parties appear to be finalizing the contract.

First responders spread cheer at nursing home

   Each year, Santa Claus does his best to not leave anyone out during the holidays, and that was evident Dec. 19 at Habersham Retreat in Baldwin.     It’s a sweet gesture that started about three or four years ago.

Antique auction puts on old-timey show

   The “underground” auction room at Once Upon a Time Co. in downtown Clarkesville filled with all sorts of people Friday night for an auction of antiques and estate goods dating back to the 1800s and more.

YEAR IN REVIEW: Habersham County made strides in 2019 with hospital deal, other moves

   Habersham Countians finished the year strong.

YEAR IN REVIEW: Jail vote, triple redo election top news of 2019

   In addition to the major healthcare shifts in Habersham County this year, there was plenty of news that impacted locals in 2019, including the failed jail referendum in November.    Voters turned down a $31.7 million jail bond, as 52% said no to financing for a new jail.

Beloved Cornelia Library manager saying goodbye

   When she was in fifth grade, Annabelle Wiley, was helping stock shelves and cleaning up at the Cornelia Library. Little did she expect to turn that volunteering effort into a full-time dedication to this community resource for so many years as the library manager.

Some fans of the franchise took the opportunity to dress up as some of their favorite characters. David Windmiller of Sautee dressed as Anakin Skywalker and Jacob Anderson of Cleveland dressed as Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Star Wars fans flock to new film

Habersham Hills Cinemas had a busy weekend right before Christmas with the premiere of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” – the latest and final movie of both a trilogy and nine-film cycle that began 42 years ago. The movie was released Friday, Dec. 20, and had an early showing the night before.
Maison Cloautre’s hobby of building boutique guitar amplifiers led him to have one of his own included at Capricorn Studios for musicians to use alongside those made by Fender and other big names.
