Blackburn wins Lake Living cover contest with unique photo

Reed Creek resident Ed Blackburn won Community Newspaper Inc.’s Lake Living cover photo contest for its spring edition. The unique shot shows a dog at the helm of a boat on the lake, but Blackburn said the image is one he sees regularly. Blackburn doesn’t refer to “Lincoln” as his dog.

Peevy’s contract extended

The Tallulah Falls School Board of Trustees voted unanimously on April 21 to provide a five-year extension to the contract of President and Head of School Dr. Larry A. Peevy.

Mass vaccine site set to close May 21

The mass vaccination site in Clarkesville will administer its last initial dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at 5 p.m. Friday, and it will close for good on Friday, May 21. Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA) moved into the Habersham County Fairgrounds on Feb. 22.

FRC discusses efforts to counter child abuse

For the people at the Family Resource Center of Northeast Georgia (FRC), the duties they perform every day are more than a job. For them, it’s a cause: a mission to build a better future for struggling families at all cost.

Cal Krefft remembered for his life, service to his country and community

Some soldiers are drafted, but Calvin Krefft enlisted voluntarily because serving his country was something he was meant to do. In the 1960’s, Calvin Krefft of the First Brigade, First Air Cavalry Division, worked as a helicopter mechanic outside the jungles of Vietnam during the war.

Dual enrollment serves to inspire, prepare students to join workforce

   Joshua Newsome is only a junior at Habersham Central High School (HCHS), but by the time he graduates, he will have earned certification to begin a career in welding, automotive or perhaps a combination of both.

   The Big Red Apple monument in Cornelia that is so loved and cherished by the community is now more vibrant than it’s been in years.     On Friday, it received a fresh coat of paint – red on the apple and white on the base.
