School board picks interim member, will name in June

   Two seats on the Board of Education will essentially be dedicated May 21 in the Republican primary, but a third seat will not be decided permanently until November’s general election.    Kristie Dover resigned from the Board of Education in February, and her seat has been vacant since.

Powerful Etowah squad ends Diamond Raiders’ run

   The Habersham Central baseball team saw a great season meet its end Wednesday in Woodstock as the Raiders ran up against a strong Etowah program in the GHSA Sweet 16.    The Eagles (28-5) flexed their muscle in Game 1 to eventually end it in 5 innings with a 10-0 score.

TFS baseball breaks through to Elite 8, hosts quarterfinals

   The magical run for Tallulah Falls baseball marches on as the Indians topped Pepperell 6-4 in a decisive Game 3 in the Sweet 16 Tuesday night.    TFS got on the board in the second inning when Ashton Roache scored following a BJ Carver bunt.

TFS sweeps region’s top soccer honors

   Tallulah Falls was well-represented in the boys soccer All-Region list for Region 8-A DI.    No. 2-ranked TFS went 15-2, winning a second straight region title and going to back-to-back Sweet 16s.

Clarkesville to discuss courthouse MOU Monday

   The City of Clarkesville will take up the final memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the old courthouse at its work session Monday night.

Rotary gives out $22K in scholarships

   The Rotary Club of Habersham County gave local students $22,000 in scholarships to this year’s seniors as part of their program that has contributed to education for 39 years.

Baldwin signs on for animal control

   The City of Baldwin approved an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with Habersham County which permits animal control services to answer calls in the city.

Diamond Raiders power into Sweet 16

   For just the second time in school history, the Habersham Central baseball team is in the GHSA Sweet 16. With a 2-1 series victory over South Paulding in the opening round of the playoffs, the Diamond Raiders earned their place as one of the final 16 clubs still standing in Class 6A.
