Davenport honored with Piedmont University endowed scholarship

Piedmont University celebrated Audrey Davenport and a new endowed scholarship in her name on June 16 at a luncheon held in Demorest. Davenport, who grew up in Cornelia, was honored for her many contributions to the Habersham County community.

Love Family recalls historic journey at annual reunion

On Saturday, a gathering of 27 relatives who descended from William Love (1797-1870) and John Love (1788-1880) took place at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Hollywood. The Love Family Reunion has been an annual event for 12 years.

Folks in Cornelia looked to have fun and beat the heat Wednesday afternoon any way they could. The Cornelia Splash Pad provides a great way to cool off on a hot summer day. Kids can also enjoy the fun at Cornelia City Park.

School board set to roll back millage rate

Habersham County’s school system is planning to roll back its millage rate this year to ease the burden on local taxpayers. The tax digest information local officials have been waiting patiently for finally arrived last week, showing an 8.76 percent increase across the board.

New HUB director hopes to grow youth programs

HUB of Habersham, a Christian, faith-based organization focusing on supporting the community’s youth, has selected Todd Colwell as the new interim executive director and CEO as founder Blake Foster steps down from the position in August.

Cornelia Commission scoping new potential park, amphitheater

The Cornelia City Commission buzzed through a short new business agenda Tuesday to end its regular  meeting after only 11 minutes. While the regular meeting was conducted quickly, the Commission did spend an hour in a public work session, held just prior to the 6 p.m. regular meeting.
