‘Faithfulness to the word of God’

The honors kept coming for The Rev. Billy Burrell this week. On his 93rd birthday Tuesday, Burrell had the newly renovated broadcast studio at WCON Radio in Cornelia named after him.

Mutley celebrates strides to success

Habersham County Animal Care and Control recently celebrated the anniversary of acquiring shelter dog, Mutley. Mutley was originally found on Dicks Hill Parkway, where his owners had abandoned him.

Kogod followed ‘passion’ to work for schools

Sheriff Joey Terrell valued his chief deputy, but he could see that Col. Murray Kogod’s passion lies in schools. Kogod handled a variety of duties at the sheriff’s office, but he will start as the Habersham County Schools’ safety director on Monday.

United Way helps thousands of local residents every year

• First in a monthly series Habersham County United Way helps fund its 23 partner organizations in the community every year. The United Way does not fund anything on its own, as all of its proceeds go directly to those charities with boots on the ground to help local people.

Court of Appeals coming to Tallulah Falls School

The Court of Appeals of Georgia continues its mission of community outreach this spring with an off-site oral argument session in Habersham County at Tallulah Falls School on Tuesday, March 28, at 10 a.m.

Hinson set for farewell concert

After 30 years of making music in the Northeast Georgia community, Dr. Wallace Hinson, a professor and chair of the music department at Piedmont University, is seeking retirement.

A celebration of history

Habersham County Historical Society had its Golden Jubilee on Saturday, marking 50 years of the organization. More than 150 people attended the event throughout the day, with many attending the gala that night.

Schools tap Kogod as safety director

The Habersham County School System’s number one priority is safety, and they showed that by appointing a School Safety Director for the county, one with whom they are quite familiar. “This is about school safety.

Baldwin moves ahead with K9 plans

The City of Baldwin voted to approve adding a K-9 unit to their police department. Although the council, missing Larry Lewallen, voted to approve the K-9 unit, this vote does not say that the council is to move forward with the final implementation of their potential working dog, Nikos.
