Cornelia hopes to have highway welcome signs up and running soon

With over two years of work going into the project, the sign welcoming visitors and residents into Habersham County and the City of Cornelia is soon to be up. Placed right near the main exit to the City of Cornelia from Ga.

Kindergarten registration begins next week

Attention all parents and guardians. Kindergarten registration for the 2023-2024 school year is underway. If your child will be turning 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 of this year, they are eligible to start kindergarten in the fall.

Habersham County 4-Hers win big at district event

Habersham County 4-H attended Junior and Senior Northeast District Project Achievement last week. District Project Achievement (DPA) empowers young people with skills for a lifetime. Students choose a project area of interest, research the topic and write and present a presentation.

On Presidents Day in late February, Habersham County officials encouraged the public to evaluate the condition of their American flags, retiring any ripped, faded, or stained flags.

Demorest Elementary fifth graders made an appearance at the Habersham County Senior Center on Tuesday morning to show off what they’ve learned through participating in Teach One to Lead One (T1L1).

New animal shelter likely to cost triple

Habersham County’s proposed new animal shelter facility will cost more than three times what county leaders projected in 2019 for the most recent incarnation of  Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).

Piedmont students compete to make best business pitch

As a new professor and new chair of the Art Department at Piedmont University, Santanu Majumdar is already making waves in Habersham County by inviting community leaders and members to assist with students for the Student Startup Competition.

Baldwin restores animal services

The City of Baldwin’s council is expected to discuss the expense of animal control for the city’s use this Monday. After the Habersham County Board of Commissioners voted to approve an intergovernmental agreement for Baldwin on Monday night, the approval now lies in the hands of Baldwin’s council.

Drone helps find missing youth

Units from the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office and Habersham County Emergency Services responded at 11:40 a.m. Monday to a home off North Mize Road, where a compromised juvenile had wandered away from home.
