Community honors finest at American Values dinner

Coach Chan Gailey summarized the honorees at Thursday’s Boy Scouts American Values Dinner in one simple statement. “It’s wonderful to live in a community with people like this,” said Gailey, the longtime football coach who was himself honored as a Habersham County Hall of Famer in February.

Nature School coming to Clarkesville

Coming soon to Clarkesville is the Little Seedlings Nature School. Spearheaded by Amanda Anderson, the school promises an experience unlike the one students receive in a typical classroom. Classes will last six weeks per term, one term in the spring and the other in the fall.

Habersham native Zac Baker is involved with almost anything and everything, and is only in the ninth grade. Growing up, Baker attended Demorest Elementary – where his mother Angelia works – and Hilliard A. Wilbanks Middle School.

Demorest secures $81K grant for new radios

Demorest scored a major grant this week, as Fire Chief Jonathan Knight landed an award for more than $81,000. The grant from FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters program totals $81,196.19 and will pay for all of the fire department’s radios when Habersham County’s new emergency system goes into place.

Baldwin hopes to teach an old dog new tricks as K-9

Baldwin City Council discussed at length Tuesday the possibility of adding a K-9 unit to their police public safety budget. The Feb. 22 edition of The Northeast Georgian ran an article about a lost dog that was nicknamed Shreck.

Cornelia Fire finally able to celebrate officers

Habersham student gets her day under the Dome

Not every kid is interested in politics, but Marley Gallman just can’t spend enough time under Georgia’s Golden Dome. At the young age of 13, Marley has already got to experience being a supporter of state government by being a page.
