Teens arrested for car burglary spree

Two teenagers who were caught ransacking cars in two Mud Creek neighborhoods were arrested Monday. Habersham County Sheriff’s PIO Kevin Angell said there were six different cars reportedly broken into, with reports still coming in from surrounding neighbors.

Recycling projects leads to sleeping mats for homeless

It was a special moment for Janet Green, a fifth-grade teacher at Baldwin Elementary School, when she found a way to involve her students with a project for her master's program and give back to the homeless community in Habersham County by making sleeping mats out of plastic bags.

Art students at Tallulah Falls School heard good news recently from the Georgia Independent School Association. GISA announced the winners of its second annual virtual art competition, with four upper school students and two middle school students honored.

Motorcycle collides with patrol car

A fugitive crashed and burned on his motorcycle Monday afternoon after running from Habersham County Sheriff’s deputies on Highway 365. Joshua Tate, 36, of Gainesville took off northbound as a sheriff’s cruiser pursued, and he tried to make a U-turn and head back south, Sheriff Joey Terrell said.

Ride against Lupus back for 5th year

The Steel Kin’s 5th Annual Lupus Awareness Ride, to benefit those diagnosed with Lupus, will be hosted in the City of Alto for the second year in a row as the event continues to grow since its debut in 2018.

Demorest moves precinct for May, June primaries
