Students earn scholarships

The Georgia Association of Agricultural Fairs (GAAF) held its annual convention last month at the Georgia National Fair Grounds and Agriculture Center in Perry and awarded two of their three scholarships to local students. Each student has been actively involved with the Chattahoochee Mountain Fair.

Clarkesville couple arrested again for alleged drug trafficking

A Clarkesville couple who have run afoul of the law before on drug charges were arrested again after a chase with law enforcement officers on March 9. Habersham County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a car on Highway 115 in Demorest for a traffic violation.

Schools emphasizing safety

The Habersham County School district recognized the importance of safety at schools during their workshop meeting on Thursday as District Safety Director Adam Bagwell presented a safety update to the board. “School safety is the priority across the board,” Bagwell said.

Baldwin elects to stay with Partnership

The City of Baldwin has elected to maintain its alliance with the organization Partnership Habersham, a private-public entity which aims to promote strategic growth, enhance employment opportunities for Habersham’s youth, and works to strengthen alliances between county municipalities.

Hatchett faces Democrat challenger

Georgia Sen. Bo Hatchett has a much easier path to November than he did two years ago. No Republican challengers qualified last week in Senate District 50, clearing Hatchett’s road to November for a chance at a second term against lone Democratic candidate Paulette Williams of Rabun County.
