Lord's Help Soup Kitchen continues to help those in need

   The Lord’s Help Soup Kitchen is gearing up to offer warm meals to those in need during the last few weeks of winter.     Shirley Dillard is the volunteer coordinator at the soup kitchen in Cornelia. She has been involved with it since the beginning, or for about seven years.

Lady Raiders kick losing streak with blowout win

   Habersham Central’s Lady Raider soccer team snagged its first Region 8-6A win Tuesday night with a 7-0 thrashing of Central Gwinnett.     “It was a good win for us,” said Lady Raiders head coach Jeff LaBarbera.

   Tallulah Falls’ valiant fourth-quarter rally fell shy Wednesday night, as visiting Galloway hung on 66-57 in a first-round boys Class A Private playoff.     The Indians trailed 51-39 starting the final period, then started chipping away.

Tallulah Falls girls can't slow down Wesleyan in playoff loss

   Tallulah Falls’ girls basketball season came to an end Tuesday night with a 63-42 loss to Wesleyan in the opening round of the state playoffs.     The Lady Indians started the game without senior leader Katy Corbett due to a lingering foot injury, and her absence was felt as the game progressed.

Lady Raiders protect home court, reach Sweet 16

   The Habersham Central Lady Raiders advanced Tuesday night to the Sweet 16 in the 6A state playoffs with their 52-45 win over Douglas County in their first home playoff game in nine years.

   Demorest City Manager Kim Simonds recently put full insurance coverage back on all of the city vehicles and pump stations after those coverages were reduced by a previous city manager.    The revelation was made at Tuesday’s city council meeting as potential surplus items were discussed.
