Lady Raiders rolling on the way to region tournament

The Lady Raiders put a bow on the No. 2 seed in the Region 8-6A tournament Friday night, as they routed Central Gwinnett 55-27 in their regular season finale.
“It’s good to have a game where you get everybody in,” Lady Raiders head coach Bill Bradley said.

Last weekend, both Tallulah Falls basketball teams booked spots in the Region 8A private finals and secured home playoff games in the state tournament. Saturday the boys downed Athens Academy in a 61-59 nailbiter, while the Lady Indians flew past George Walton Friday.

Habersham Central’s wrestling team had a good showing from five athletes who competed in the Class 6A state championships in Macon over the weekend.
“I told our guys there are no bad wrestlers at the state tournament, and we competed well,” Raiders coach Morris Brooks said.

Habersham Central’s girls soccer team bounced back in a big way from an opening loss, crushing Dawson County 6-0 on Feb. 11.
Sarah Clark had a hat trick for the Lady Raiders with three goals, while Anna LaBarbera, Breelyn Carroll and Adi Banks each scored one.

Missing Turnerville woman found dead

A Turnerville woman who was missing for four days was found dead Monday not far from her own home.
Worried family members filed a report with Habersham County Sheriff’s deputies Friday after they had not seen Mylessa “Bo” Zimmerman since 10 p.m. the previous night and her car was missing.

Habersham Central’s baseball team has been working since summer to build itself into a potential force on the diamond this year.
The Raiders played just 14 games last year – splitting them at 7-7 – before COVID-19 suspended the season.
