Scouting starting to get back to normal

   With the relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions, the Boy Scouts are one of the many groups looking forward to returning back to normal for its summer season.

   A portion of Demorest residents are planning to call for a recall election for Councilmen Nathan Davis and John Hendrix. Both councilmen took their seats in January.

Hospital gets supply of PPE from Ford Motor Company

   Habersham Medical Center obtained a supply of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from Ford Motor Company late last week.    HMC purchased 120 surgical gowns and 5,000 full face shields to aid staffers in the continuing battle against COVID-19. The gowns are washable up to 50 times.

Dead man found near Mt. Airy railroad tracks was hit by train

   A White County man was found dead by the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks Friday morning in Mt. Airy.     The victim was identified as Andrew Dylan Clayborn, 33 of Cleveland by Habersham County Deputy Coroner Kenneth Franklin.

   Just when Cornelia officials thought they had the support they needed for the SPLOST VII composite model, the deck was shuffled one more time.

Baldwin revisits manufactured home permit

   The Baldwin City Council voted 4-1 to revisit a special use permit application and hear its first reading. If approved, the permit would allow the construction of a manufactured home on Baldwin Falls Road.

HMC doing elective surgeries; rehab center under construction

   Habersham Medical Center has gained enough traction on treating COVID-19 patients that the facility was able to resume elective surgeries earlier this month.

Demorest officials at each other again after short peace

   Tensions returned at the Tuesday Demorest City Council meeting in which Mayor Rick Austin requested a motion to terminate City Manager Kim Simonds which failed.
