City of Cornelia announces property tax increase for residents

The city of Cornelia has tentatively adopted a 2019 millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 0.097%. This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 8.5 mills, an increase of 0.097 mills. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 8.

The Habersham Electric Membership Corp. (HEMC) Board of Directors confirmed for The Northeast Georgian Tuesday Whit Hollowell has joined the cooperative as acting CEO. His first day at HEMC was Monday, Oct. 7, said HEMC Strategy and Communications Director Nicole Dover.

County holds 1st town hall for jail bond referendum

The Habersham County Commission, with the help of the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), held its first town hall meeting to discuss the jail bond referendum on the upcoming Nov. 5 ballot.

Early last week, Tim Lee thought he had six months to live. As it turned out, he had only six days. Lee, Habersham Partnership for Growth (HPG)/Economic Development Council (EDC) executive director, succumbed to complications caused by esophageal cancer Sunday afternoon.
