The Northeast Georgian’s upgraded website now live

The Northeast Georgian’s official website has recently undergone a facelift, which includes changes to better the experience of its users. The improved site, thenortheastgeorgian.com, went live Thursday, July 25, and is also now easier to use via mobile devices.

6 agencies bring men into custody

Two men are in custody after leading local law enforcement on an hours-long chase Thursday afternoon, an official confirmed. Lt. Matt Wurtz, public information officer with the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), confirmed for The Northeast Georgian the men were captured around 1 p.m.

Cornelia erects ‘safe haven’ signs

In early April, a Cornelia mother allegedly killed her 3-month-old daughter. Now, the city of Cornelia has erected “safe haven” signs at facilities where mothers can safely leave newborns they don’t want.

Susie Brown celebrates 100 years of life with loved ones

Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Clarkesville filled with at least 70 family members, friends, church members and neighbors Saturday, July 20, to celebrate Susie Mae Brown’s 100th birthday.

HCSO: Skeletal remains found

The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) are conducting a death investigation after skeletal remains were discovered Thursday in the area of state Route 105 (Cannon Bridge Road) just north of Old Athens Highway, the HCSO announced online.
