Fairview Elementary School (FES) hosted its annual Hometown Heroes event Wednesday, Sept. 11, to honor service men and women in the community, including firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical technicians and other emergency personnel, plus those who serve or have served in the U.

Heroes in Irvin Street fire identified

The Cornelia Fire Department has identified the individuals who helped 13 residents (five families) escape a house fire Aug. 30 in downtown Cornelia. Timing was a life-saving factor during the fire, which destroyed a Cornelia home that Friday morning.

Habersham man stabbed to death in Forsyth

Authorities have identified the victim of a deadly Forsyth County stabbing as a Habersham County man. Cpl. Doug Rainwater, public information officer with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), told The Northeast Georgian Tuesday the victim was identified as 20-year-old Jesus Gilberto Arizaga.
