   Attendance continues to be strong at county commission meetings, and the public comments seem to surround two main topics – the radio tower at The Orchard and the development on Harvest Church Road.

County disbands citizen ethics panel

   Habersham County’s Board of Commissioners completed its overhaul of their ethics panel Monday night, disbanding the citizen panel and empowering members of the surrounding legal community to deal with complaints against high-level county leaders.

Baldwin approves waste plant near business park

   The City of Baldwin, after the second reading of the ordinance, went through with approval for ReveSolutions to take steps to move adjacent the Airport Business Park.

The first full week of May is recognized as Teacher Appreciation Week, and Habersham County Schools wanted to show their gratitude for the teachers in the district. Fairview Elementary held a teacher appreciation breakfast, provided by parents at the school.

The United States is facing a major economic crisis with a June 1 deadline looking to either raise the national debt ceiling or default on loans. U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) met with President Joe Biden on Tuesday with no immediate resolution in sight.

New restrooms questionable for July 4

Patrons of the Demorest City Park may have to make do with porta-potties through the Independence Day holiday. With the current status of the restroom area at the park, only dirt and concrete are within the fence, and it may be more than a month until restrooms are available to park-goers.

School board celebrates community members
