Rabies cases raise animal control questions

An outbreak of rabies last week in Clarkesville left Clarkesville City Council asking questions about the calls that Habersham Animal Care and Control answered. According to a press release from Habersham County, a kitten was found Dec. 20 in an unincorporated area of Cornelia.

Apartments in Demorest set to take applications in February

A new apartment complex is coming into Habersham County on Old Highway 441 in Demorest. Under the business name “Demorest Z, LLC,” the new apartments will help to provide housing for Habersham County residents at Villas at Old 441. The new apartments will have 138 units and be multi-family.

TFS Robotics Club wins four qualification matches

The Tallulah Falls School Robotics Club competed in several qualification matches on Saturday at Lakeview Academy in Gainesville, winning four of the five ahead of next Saturday’s league tournament.

Meals on Wheels has plenty on its plate

Organized through the Habersham County Senior Center, Meals on Wheels has been serving the Habersham County area by providing hot and frozen meals to the community since the 1980s. Running mostly on volunteers, Meals on Wheels is always looking for support from the community.

Johnson resigns from magistrate bench

Gerald Johnson resigned his position as Habersham County’s chief magistrate judge on Wednesday. Johnson wrote to Gov. Brian Kemp to inform him he was stepping down from the bench prior to a pending decision by the Georgia Supreme Court on his status.

Hospital ‘critical’ to Habersham

Habersham County’s Board of Commissioners did what was necessary to save its hospital Tuesday, and several members of the community came to speak about the importance of doing so. “Under no circumstances should that hospital be closed,” local realtor Wade Rhodes said.

Hospital prepares for early NGHS transfer

Habersham County was on the verge Tuesday of completing a deal with Northeast Georgia Health Systems (NGHS) to take over Habersham Medical Center by this summer.
