Mt. Airy names sole finalist for police chief

The Town of Mt. Airy recently hired their new police chief Jamie Bowden. Bowden is following on the footsteps of Tim Jarrell who recently left the department to join the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office as an investigator.

Cornelia passes budget

Budget approval, employee longevity awards, and commission meeting dates were all discussed at the Cornelia Commission meeting Tuesday night. The city commissioners main task was the budget for 2023, which was passed unanimously.

The following public meetings are scheduled from Dec. 9-15.  Habersham County Board of Education 6 p.m. regular meeting, Monday, Dec. 12, at the board meeting room, 132 Stanford Mill Road in Clarkesville. Baldwin City Council 6:30 p.m. regular meeting, Monday, Dec. 12, at 155 Willingham Avenue.

Baldwin honors fallen officer

A fallen police officer will have a permanent monument in the City of Baldwin after his death in the line of duty in 2018. Baldwin honored native son Officer Edgar Flores on Tuesday night after the annual Habersham County Christmas parade.

Cornelia’s new Main Street manager hits ground running

Noah Hamil was hired as the new Cornelia Main Street Manager this week. Hamil replaces Lindsey Fitzgerald, who left the position earlier this year. The Main Street Manager is responsible for organizing city events like Christmas in Cornelia, which is set for 4 p.m. Saturday.
