Baldwin still at odds with county leadership

The City of Baldwin has elected not to officially engage in ongoing talks over development standards between Habersham County and other municipalities, contradicting a prior pledge to do so at a January joint meeting.

North Georgia Tech practical nursing students receive pins

North Georgia Technical College’s Practical Nursing students from the Currahee campus recently received their pins in a private graduation ceremony at the college. Pinning ceremonies are a traditional nursing practice that honors students prior to beginning their careers in healthcare.

Three indicted in conspiracy to distribute ‘ghost guns’

Three men have been arraigned on federal charges of dealing firearms without a license, possession of machine guns, possession of unregistered firearms, and conspiracy. Jelani Kazmende, 38, of Marietta, Wiley Martin, 42, of Acworth, and Robert Louis Jeffords, Jr., 62, of Forest City, N.C.

Speed cameras crank up at Tallulah Falls school zone

The Tallulah Falls Police Department will begin an Automated Traffic Enforcement Speed Device program at schools throughout the city to increase safety for students, parents, teachers, and anyone else traveling through the school zones.

Tax revenues start well

State tax collections have begun the new fiscal year on a strong note. The Georgia Department of Revenue brought in nearly $2.21 billion in taxes last month – the start of fiscal 2023 – $54.2 million, or 2.5 percent, above July of last year. The three major tax categories all showed increases.
