Stolen valor alleged

A woman honored with a Quilt of Valor by the Grant-Reeves VFW Post 7720 in May was arrested Aug. 11 on charges that she falsified her status as a veteran.

Dancers raise $100K for Hope

For the first time in three years, Dancing with the Stars for Hope returned in its full form and glory to raise more than $100,000 for Circle of Hope. The event featured six teams from the community cutting a rug and entertaining, while supporting the county’s best weapon against domestic violence.

Local man claims probation officer forced his nurse to abandon him

A Cornelia man paralyzed from the neck down says he felt his rights were violated after Habersham County Probation Officer Anita Dorsey removed his personal care assistant from his apartment at Peaks of Cornelia without apparent jurisdiction.

Domestic charge costs deputy his job

Habersham County Sheriff’s Office dismissed Deputy Ryan Kelley after he was charged in a domestic incident in Stephens County. On Aug. 5, the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of the incident, according to a release by Col. Murray Kogod of the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office.
