Baldwin lapses insurance, running for emergencies only

   The city of Baldwin has been running at a minimum services level the last two days due to a lapse in their municipal liability insurance.    Baldwin City Hall was closed Thursday and is again Friday, pending a special called meeting Friday night to rectify the issue.

Three look to unseat Clyde in District 9

Michael Boggus thinks North Georgia needs to be represented by an average citizen as was intended by the Constitution. Boggus, a crane operator from Commerce, wants to be that average citizen serving as U.S. representative for District 9. He previously ran for the position in 2020, receiving 3.

Habersham County found its most wanted fugitive thanks to a family member’s help. On Sunday afternoon around 5:45 p.m., a Habersham County Sheriff’s Deputy received a call from an Alto Police Officer who made a traffic stop on a relative of Alton Lee Davidson, 49, of Alto.

Officer saves inmate

A Habersham County Detention Officer saved the life of an inmate Monday when she rescued him from an attempted suicide. Officer Nicole Hollingsworth was notified of an inmate in distress, and she arrived at his cell with him hanging with a bedsheet around his neck.

Hungry to serve

After starting from the ground up, the Clarkesville Soup Kitchen passed its five-year anniversary last week of serving meals to those in need. The facility served a record 12,304 to-go plates last year and is on pace for another record in 2022, with 3,179 served in the first quarter this year.
