Demorest celebrates new fire truck

Members of the Demorest Fire Department put their hands on their new fire truck Tuesday and rolled it back into the fire station to carry on a tradition established back when fire departments used wagons and horses.

Huggins to remain as mayor of Alto

Cooper leaving as rec director

Habersham County Recreation Director Kurt Cooper is resigning to take a job in the private sector. Cooper’s departure continues the parade of department heads to leave the county in the last year.

Schools restock assistant principals

As the Habersham County School district has promoted assistant principals from within to lead new schools in recent months, the Board of Education has approved the staff who will be taking over the empty positions starting the new school year.

Grandson turned hero

In an overpacked room at the Habersham County School Board of Education meeting on Monday night, the district recognized the heroic actions of Logan Canada, a student at Cornelia Elementary School, who saved his grandfather’s life over Spring Break.
