Shooter, victim both arrested in weird incident

   Habersham County Sheriff’s deputies identified the suspect from Monday’s shooting near the White County line, but the story was not all it seemed from the victim’s first account.

Plan for new Demorest attorney started in October

   Demorest City Council approved a new city attorney Tuesday night in Thomas Mitchell out of Buford, replacing former city attorney Joey Homans, whose removal was pondered as early as October, documents and statements confirmed.

McDonald ready to serve final term on Public Service Commission

   Clarkesville resident Bubba McDonald was sworn in Wednesday for his third term as District 4 Public Service Commissioner at the Jackson County Courthouse, the place where his political career began as a commissioner in 1968.

Nonprofit group works toward 'everyday good'

Deputies look into bizarre shooting, robbery

   A Cornelia man was shot in the shoulder Monday afternoon by someone with whom he was meeting to complete an internet transaction.

Habersham groups use 2021 MLK celebration to highlight diversity

   Despite physically being apart, several Habersham County groups managed to come together virtually Sunday afternoon for the 30th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration.     For about a decade, Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church sponsored the MLK Peace Walk.

Legislators ready to get work done

   Georgia’s General Assembly is ready to hit the ground running, and two of Habersham County’s three state representatives are beginning their first term in Atlanta.    Rep. Victor Anderson and Sen. Bo Hatchett were sworn in Jan. 11 for the first time, while Rep.
