Vehicle wreck ends in woods, shuts down SR 365 South

   A single vehicle wreck Wednesday morning shut down a portion of State Route 365 southbound near Hazel Creek Road to allow extrication of the patient and vehicle.    The accident involved a 2006 Lexus GS driven by Billy Ernest Craven, 63, of Clarkesville.

   After initially saying he did not have the authority to postpone the election a second time, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger bowed to pressure from other state officials and announced the primary elections will be moved back to June 9.

County candidate accused of sexual battery

   Benny Ray Pate, 63, of Clarkesville – a candidate for District 1 Habersham County Commissioner – was arrested Thursday on a charge of misdemeanor sexual battery.    Pate had no comment on the arrest Monday but said he was still planning to run for the seat on the county commission.
