Anthem talks stuck in neutral

   As December nears, there is still no clear sign of Anthem and Northeast Georgia Health System reaching a new contract agreement.    NGHS was removed from Anthem’s network Oct. 1 after both parties could not come to a new agreement for their new contract.

   After an extensive search, The Northeast Georgian named Matthew Osborne as its editor on Monday.    Osborne was most recently the editor of the Cherokee Scout in Murphy, North Carolina, another local newspaper owned by Community Newspapers Inc.

Baldwin, county at odds over airport annexation

   County commissioners are not taking kindly to Baldwin’s sudden plans to annex the Habersham County Airport into their city limits.

Cornelia apartment fire ruled arson

   Authorities are requesting assistance in determining who is responsible for an arson at a Cornelia apartment complex Monday morning.     A reward of up to $10,000 is offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is closing its file on the charge of allegations of sexual harrassment against Piedmont College President James Mellichamp. The EEOC charge was filed by PC biology professor Rick Austin, who also serves as Mayor of Demorest.

Census Bureau recruiting bilingual Habersham Countians for jobs

National Census Day April 1, 2020, is five months away, and the Habersham County Census 2020 Complete Count Committee (CCC) has been meeting multiple times this year to come up with different ways to promote it and increase participation. It held its last meeting of the year Nov. 7.
