A new tax that lowers taxes?

   The Flexible Local Option Sales Tax (FLOST) is just two months away from appearing on the statewide ballot in November. Potential passage of FLOST could both lower city and county property taxes and provide Habersham County with additional revenue.

Local delegate reflects on ‘joy’ of DNC

   Virginia Webb, a Clarkesville resident, represented Habersham County and Georgia Democratic Party’s 9th District at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago last week, describing every night as “truly magical.”    “Joy. It absolutely was a joy being at the convention this year.

Airplane makes emergency landing in Habersham

   A single-engine plane was forced to divert to the Habersham County Airport for an emergency landing when smoke began to billow from the cockpit.    First responders were dispatched just before 9 p.m. Thursday after they were notified of the emergency.

Baldwin approves road study, cemetery overlay

   Baldwin roads located in Habersham County are one step closer to getting improvements following an approval by Baldwin City Council to participate in a county road study.

HUB starts new school year in need of more mentors

   HUB of Habersham, a Christian-based nonprofit that supports the county’s youth, kicked off the new school year last week, but is still in need of more mentors for its Teach One to Lead One program.

For the love of the game

   Dozens of deer antlers hung from the ceiling as the pungent smell of epoxy drifted through the room while Chris Carter smeared putty along a urethane foam figure in the shape of a deer. Soon he called his daughter, BJ Ivie, over from across the room to help move the skin and fur in place.

Baldwin all set to open long awaited $1.5 million public works building

   For the city of Baldwin, what began as an abstract vision scrawled on a piece of paper has now been erected into a newly-constructed headquarters for the public works department – a move that city officials say is long overdue.
