   Over 5,000 people crowded the streets of Cornelia on Saturday for the 36th annual Big Red Apple Festival, which kicked off the fall festivities in Cornelia.

Sinclair named The Northeast Georgian editor

   White County News Editor Samantha Sinclair is the new editor of The Northeast Georgian.    She will continue serving White County as its editor during the transition period.    The announcement was made Tuesday afternoon at both newspapers.

County considers gymnastics privatization

   Habersham County is considering privatizing its youth gymnastics program which follows heated debate over the program during this summer’s budget talks.

   More than 200 students walked out of class at Habersham Central High School on the morning of  Sept. 20 in a stand against gun violence in schools.

   Local florist Janet Kinsey has been in the business for nearly two years, owning L&D Florist in Cornelia, located on Level Grove Road.    Kinsey’s passion is giving back to those in tough times and the great times. L&D specializes in funerals, weddings and other special events.

New 80-home development in the works

   Clarkesville City Council approved the annexation and rezoning of a parcel of land off Rocky Branch Road that could be used for a proposed 80-home development.

School safety a ‘24 hours a day’ issue at TFS

   Schools across the country are discussing school safety in the wake of a recent shooting at Apalachee High School that resulted in the death of two students and two teachers.    Local schools are no exception to these concerns, and Dr.

Wild West in Clarkesville

   The Chattahoochee Mountain Fair Rodeo made its way into Clarkesville last Friday and Saturday.    The cowboys and cowgirls who competed in this year’s rodeo showed incredible athleticism and sportsmanship, while the livestock they rode and competed with and against gave it their all.

Vaughn to leave county manager seat

   Habersham County Manager Alicia Vaughn is set to leave the job at the end of the year. The announcement was made at Monday’s Habersham County Commission meeting where the board approved an amendment to Vaughn’s contract which is now set to end on Dec. 27.
