Big Red Apple Festival back again

   The annual Big Red Apple Festival is returning to downtown Cornelia for its 36th year on Sept. 21 with plenty of fun for the whole family.    Cornelia Main Street Manager Noah Hamil said this year’s festival will feature about 150 arts and crafts vendors and plenty of delicious eats.

Raiders blast Loganville, pick up region win

   Habersham Central topped Loganville 56-21 Friday night to pick up a win in its first region game of the season.    The Raiders (2-3, 1-0 Region 8-5A) got off to a fast start, scoring touchdowns on their first 2 possessions of the evening then adding another 3 scores in the 2nd quarter.

Heroes Welcome

   Students at Fairview Elementary School lined the gymnasium waving American flags on Wednesday at the school’s Hometown Heroes event which is held every year to honor local first responders and remember 9/11.

Online school threat leads to arrest

   A series of online threats have resulted in multiple arrests for students around the region who are accused of making unsettling social media posts in the wake of last week’s tragic shooting in Barrow County.

Local Hispanic heritage to be celebrated at weekend fest

   Local Hispanic ice cream and drinks shop Raspas El Tigre is throwing the first annual Festival Latino in downtown Cornelia on Saturday.    The event, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Clarkesville carpenter turns table-making into an art form

   Dennis Banks spends most of his days in the basement of his Clarkesville home crafting ornate tables with wood sourced from local trees.    But it all started about 15 years ago when he asked a favor from God.

Biscuits, hog calling and talent galore

   Last Friday kicked off a week of family fun activities at the Chattahoochee Mountain Fair.    Fair food vendors, face painting, magic shows, local leaders and talented singers dotted the Habersham County Fairgrounds throughout the weekend.

Man injured in officer-involved shooting

   A Clarkesville man is in critical condition after an officer-involved shooting at Cameron Place Apartments on Saturday night, according to officials with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.    Multiple officers reportedly discharged their firearms in the incident, which occurred at 6:15 p.m.

Recovery Festival in Clarkesville provides sense of community

   On Saturday, Pitts Park hosted hundreds of people for a Recovery Festival in observance of National Recovery Month.    The Recovery Festival is a drug and alcohol recovery celebration for those who have put down their destructive habits for a better life.
