Raiders wrestling teams struggle over long weekend, look forward to individuals

   Habersham Central’s boys and girls wrestling teams hosted East Hall for a duals match Thursday night in Mt. Airy.     The girls match ended with the Lady Raiders on top thanks to pins by Habersham’s Michaela Krippner (115), Natalie Spillers (115) and McKenzie Spradley (125).

Diamond Raiders brave cold to prepare for 2024

   It certainly doesn’t feel like it, but baseball season has officially arrived at Habersham Central.     Amid temps flirting with the freezing mark, the Raiders began their 3-day tryouts Monday in Mt. Airy.

Raiders keep state cuts coming at Hot Chocolate

   The Habersham Central Swim team hosted its “Hot Chocolate” invitational last weekend.    The boys and girls teams each finished 4th overall on a day which HCHS’ girls 400 Freestyle relay team consisting of Skye Medley, Sadie Hagel, Ally Dover and Leah Culpepper made its state cut.

TFS’ Ketch picks Davidson College for track & field

   Standout track & field athlete Sam Ketch penned his Letter of Intent with Davidson College, as  the senior is set to continue his athletic and academic career at the next level.    “Getting to compete at the collegiate level has been a dream of mine since I was in middle  school,” Ketch said.

Raiders rally late to stun Elephants

   When Gainesville’s Ellis Pitts nailed a pair of free throws to put the Red Elephants up by 10 points with under 2 minutes to play Saturday in Mt. Airy, fans on both sides shuffled towards the exits.

Cold shooting hurts Lady Raiders against G’ville

   There was a point Saturday afternoon where it looked as if the Lady Raiders had things under control against Gainesville. But ice cold 2nd half shooting – and the turnover bug – got in the way of Habersham prevailing.    Three Lady Red Elephants (3-8, 1-0 Region 8-6A) dropped double digits in Mt.

TFS back on the court, back on track

   Tallulah Falls’ girls basketball won 58-32, and cruised to the finish despite only two points in the fourth at Lanier Christian in their first game of the new year Friday night.

Lady Raiders open region season 1-0

   Coach Bill Bradley and the Lady Raiders began their Region 8-6A campaign on a strong note Wednesday evening in Mt. Airy, downing Shiloh 53-43.    “When you get wins in the region, you’re happy to have them no matter how you get the job done,” said Lady Raiders coach Bill Bradley.

Ring of Honor original remembered fondly

   Robert Carl Williams will forever be a legend in Habersham County sports.    Williams, a member of Habersham Central Football’s inaugural Ring of Honor class, passed away Dec. 28 in Toccoa.
