The Habersham Central girls basketball team was already locked into the region’s No. 3 seed for the tournament, but Tuesday night at No. 2 Lanier served as a measuring stick and potential postseason preview.

Habersham Hoops hosted senior night Friday. Unfortunately for the Lady Raiders, the final home opponent of the regular season was North Forsyth.    North Forsyth’s girls boast a perfect, 24-0 record and have dismantled everyone they’ve played in the region.

It was a busy weekend across Habersham Central wrestling. The Lady Raider squad was in Toccoa Friday for the traditional region tournament, where they placed 7th out of 42 teams. Natalie Spillers and McKenzie Spradley both placed second individually in their weight classes.

Habersham Central’s girls basketball team rattled off its fourth straight victory Tuesday, downing region foe Apalachee 42-31 behind Kyia Barrett’s 28 points.    Habersham’s current streak began Jan. 19 with a win over Jaxco. The HCHS girls also won on Jan. 23, 26 and 30.

The Habersham Central boys basketball team was all over Apalachee from the jump Tuesday, ultimately pulling away for the 63-42 road win.    Following a 14-2 Raider start, the Wildcats were never able to pull back within striking distance.

TFS splits opener at Mt. Vernon

Tallulah Falls’ tennis teams took on Mt. Vernon Tuesday on the road to open the season, leaving with  a split as the girls picked up a victory.      The Lady Indians won 4-1, while the Indians fell in straight sets, 5-0.      “It was a really good first match for us tonight,” said coach Anthony Cox.
