Protect our children

   April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, but we cannot confine our efforts in that mission to one month out of 12.    Child abuse happens every day in every town, city and rural corner of America. It happens to the rich and the poor, to people of every race and religion.

Diamond Raiders jockey for playoff position

   All was quiet through 3 frames in Friday’s tilt between the Red Elephants and Habersham Central. That all changed when Gainesville’s Asher Stephens smacked a 3-run blast in the bottom of the 4th.

Williams adds another stalwart from historic 1981 defense to Ring of Honor

   The 1981 Habersham Central defense will always stand out as among the finest the program has ever produced. Statistically, they stand as the second best in school history – allowing just 90 points over 11 games.

Walter hit the mark during TFS career

   Brianna Walter has had a massive impact in her short time at Tallulah Falls School. The Sugar Hill native has a disciplined regiment and thrives on positive energy as each shot gets her closer to perfection.

Raider boys soccer fights for region title

   Habersham Central's boys soccer team made it a clean sweep on the pitch for the Raiders as region champions, as the boys beat North Forsyth 1-0 Tuesday night to claim the top of the table..

‘He’ll be missed’

   After nearly 23 years, Brad Barrett soon will step down from his position as Clarkesville’s police chief, but the impact seen under his leadership will last long after his departure.     “We’ve been able to assemble a team that works well together,” Barrett said.

Mail fiasco causing county, Congress plenty of headaches

   Many of Habersham County’s recreation baseball players were without uniforms for the first week of games before spring break.    The shirts were ordered and produced, but they were sitting in the U.S. Postal Service’s new processing center in Palmetto that is causing so much angst across Georgia.

Proposed sales tax bill gets LOST in space

   Habersham County leaders have been looking for a way to get a Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) back on the books for the county, and Rep. Victor Anderson (R-Cornelia) crafted a bill in January to do just that.

CIRCUS COMES TO CLARKESVILLE

Dusty's All-Star Circus visited the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center on Monday and Tuesday. Acts included a trapeze artist, a juggler and a comedic host.
