Schools set up plans for eclipse

   A partial solar eclipse will dawn over Habersham County on Monday April 8, and local schools will release students two hours early and excuse all absences for the celestial phenomenon.

REGION CHAMPS!

   It became apparent very quickly Tuesday that the Habersham Central girls soccer team would cruise to victory.    But it wasn’t just any victory. With a 10-0 romp of Shiloh, the Lady Raiders put an emphatic stamp on the first region title in the program’s 29-year history.

Raider boys also pushing for title run

   Amid all the excitement and historic milestones for Lady Raider soccer, there’s another team making a big time push.    Habersham’s boys have quietly, but forcefully taken care of business. The Raiders (11-2, 9-1 Region 8-6A) did so again Tuesday with a 6-0 pummeling of Shiloh.

Bats come alive as Raiders rope ’Horns

   The Diamond Raiders broke out of their recent slump in a big way Wednesday at Lanier, erupting for 13 hits in an 11-1 bashing of the Longhorns.    Entering the tilt, Habersham (13-5, 6-3 Region 8-6A) was riding a stretch of 3 games (21 innings) in which the lineup produced just 2 runs total.

Habersham schools honor top teacher, supporter of the year

   Nerves and gratitude were high last Thursday evening at a banquet honoring Habersham County’s Teacher of the Year and Support Person of the Year. Honorees were Daniel Medders, fifth grade Teacher at Level Grove Elementary School, and Linda Garrett, school bus driver for Habersham County Schools.

Demorest considers future water system expansion

   Demorest could pursue an ambitious future plan to expand its water infrastructure as city officials consider three options that vary in cost.

   As part-time Raider Stadium PA announcer Grayson Means put it Friday, the weather may be absolutely terrible, but it’s never a bad night for Habersham soccer.
