Baldwin chief: ‘We need animal control’

   The City of Baldwin is expected to vote next Monday on whether to accept an intergovernmental agreement with Habersham County which would permit animal control to operate within its city limits.

GSP: Corvette did ‘minimum’ 120 mph in ’23 fatal crash

   The final report on a tragic crash that killed five people on Highway 365 last summer said the speed of the Corvette that caused the deadly collision was going between 106 mph and 120 mph at “bare minimum.

The “Disenchanted” show is a twist on everyone’s favorite Disney princesses and how they see the world of royalty and independence. It opened at Habersham Community Theater Thursday night and will perform Friday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m., twice Saturday, April 13 (2 and 7:30 p.m.

   Raider Stadium was a pressure cooker from kickoff to final whistle (and beyond) Tuesday night as the Habersham Central boys soccer team stunned North Forsyth 1-0 to win the GHSA Region 8-6A title.    “It’s an awesome feeling to know that the work we’ve put in paid off,” said Coach Ric Wallace.

Lady Indians win 2nd straight region crown

   The Lady Indians won a 16th consecutive match, which netted a second straight region title. The Indians lost a 3-2 decision in the title match, as both teams took on Rabun County at Elbert County Wednesday evening.    The Lady Indians earned a 3-0 win, all coming at singles.

   Tallulah Falls seniors Marc Crotta and Joseph McGahee completed their 60 shot standing Junior Olympic National Championship competition on April 9-10 in Colorado Springs. The duo were up against the best in the United States 20 years old and younger.

Sounds of history reverberate

   Evelyn Davis Harmon spoke Sunday about many of the folks who made Deas Chapel an important part of Clarkesville’s history as the church’s renovated organ was unveiled as a central piece of the city’s landmark.

Clarkesville set to monitor short term rentals

   After several months of discussion, Clarkesville has moved to place certain regulations on short term rentals within city limits.    The ordinance approved by council members on Monday will allow city officials to inspect and keep tabs on short term rental units throughout Clarkesville.

Farmers eligible for loans due to ’23 drought

   The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has classified Habersham County, along with 16 others, as a primary natural disaster area due to severe drought conditions seen last fall, making local farmers eligible for emergency relief loans from the Farm Service Agency (FSA).
