Lady Indians host first-round playoff game

   Tallulah Falls' girls soccer team downed the Trion Lady Bulldogs 3-2 in the first round of the state playoffs Tuesday night with help from two more goals from Addie Higbie, giving her 42 for the season.

Cemetery gets new historic marker

The Old Clarkesville Cemetery has a new marker that is part of a larger plan to create a more high-profile entryway. The marker commemorates the recent finding of 140 additional unmarked graves on the grounds, noting that “their names may be lost in time, but they are never forgotten.

Habersham County Planning Commission’s meeting was unusual Tuesday night, with a sudden resignation from Commissioner Bill Gresham and a room filled with citizens waiting to voice their concerns.

Demorest has eyes on future development

The future development of Demorest was the main topic of discussion at Tuesday’s city council meeting. The council voted unanimously to condemn small strips of six different properties in order to bore a sewer line underneath Highway 365 and cap it on the other side.

Owensby develops her own path

Walking into Cornelia City Hall, among the smiling faces locals see is Jessie Owensby. A native of Oakwood, Owensby is Community Development Manager, but the title holds more than meets the eye. Owensby started her career unexpectedly.

A staple in Downtown Clarkesville, Wood’s Mercantile can pride itself on being the oldest retail store in Habersham County. Current owner Kevin Wood purchased the shop back in 2019 and began renovations in the same year.

TFS’ Mitchell breaks 21-year-old record

Tallulah Falls’ track & field teams competed in an impromptu meet at Mt. Pisgah on Wednesday. Even shorthanded, the Lady Indians finished third and the Indians fourth with only six individuals  each. An original meet slated for Friday was scratched with a bad weather forecast.
