Animal shelter doing all it can for furry friends

Habersham County Animal Shelter is experiencing an overflow of animals coming into their care. This has led to compatible animals or a bonded pair being put into the same housing and the shelter having to refer anyone bringing an animal to look for a suitable home before drop-off.

Baldwin set to lease new police fleet

The City of Baldwin approved a plan Monday to lease a new set of police cruisers. Six Chevrolet Tahoes will take the place of worn-down police vehicles.

Pit Vipers bring home another title

Memphis was the location of the stiffest competition yet for the Tallulah Falls School Pit Vipers barbecue competition teams, but they still came home with a championship. Seven-time World BBQ Champion Melissa Cookston hosted the World Jr. BBQ Championships on Oct.

Best in the world when trouble’s on the line

When the power goes out, utility line workers are first to the scene and work long, hard hours to restore electricity. Doing that requires skill, dedication and training.

Early voting starts at record pace

Habersham County has seen a big turnout for early voting, as 4,859 people had already placed their vote either by mail, in person or electronically in the first week it was open. Across the state, more than 758,000 voters ran to the polls in the opening week of early voting.

Horton exits as Chamber president

Mary Beth Horton resigned this week as president of the Habersham County Chamber of Commerce after serving in that role for four years. Horton has been a major part of community events since then, making her presence known at nearly every big happening in Habersham County during that time.

Seniors enjoying their new ride

Habersham County Senior Center recently upgraded its transportation after a worn-down engine gave out. The senior center, a place where Habersham County locals over the age of 60 can come together, has raised enough money with the help of their community to purchase a bus.
