Stage Raiders honored at conference

Two Habersham Stage Raiders returned from the Georgia Theatre Conference with best performer awards. Seniors Ansley Broome and Nolan Penick won for their performances of Mary and William in “Tuesdays and Sundays” for the Ray Horne One Act Competition at the conference in Kingsland Oct. 12-15.

Plenty of Halloween events in Habersham

Costumed children looking for treats will have plenty of options to celebrate Halloween in Habersham County. The town of Mt. Airy and Mt. Airy Baptist Church will host a Trunk or Treat 5-7 p.m. Saturday at city hall, 1231 Dicks Hill Pkwy. For details, call 706-778-6990.

Tallulah Falls volleyball battles in the Elite 8

   Tallulah Falls' volleyball team advanced to the state Final Four with a straight-set win over Logan County on Tuesday night.    The Lady Indians (33-11) won 25-10, 25-14 and 25-18 to advance to Saturday's state semifinal match. TFS will play at home against an opponent to be determined.

Hospital continues heavy financial losses

Habersham Medical Center continues to trail behind its budget plans, as the facility lost more than $700,000 in September to add to its growing deficit. HMC showed a revenue-to-expense loss of $742,962 for the month of September, bringing the total deficit for the year to more than $1.9 million.

Postal worker ‘saved my life’

Men of honor needed

The final honors of a three-round volley, American flag folding and presentation and the playing of taps are familiar sights at funerals for military veterans and retirees. Jim Morgan was on the honor guard several times when he was on active duty in the U.S. Army.

Fire on the Mountain festival coming to Cornelia

Fire trucks, law enforcement vehicles and emergency medical vehicles will fill the Cornelia Train Depot Saturday, Oct. 29, in an effort to celebrate local heroes. The Fire on the Mountain Emergency Response Parade and Festival will start at 11 a.m.
