Piedmont shows huge operational deficits

Piedmont University’s financial statement shows massive operational losses over the last decade, including nearly $19 million over the last four years. The spreadsheet acquired by The Northeast Georgian shows $18,943,417 in operational losses since 2019, including $9.4 million in 2021 alone.

Completion near on $1.5M turf field at Raider Park

Next month, Raider Park will have a beautiful new artificial turf baseball field in time for the next baseball season in the spring. Renovations have been going on since summer, and the field is getting closer to completion.

Baldwin eyes leasing for potential new police fleet

Baldwin city officials are looking into the possibility of shifting their police fleet to a leasing program in the future. Chief Chris Jones told the city council Tuesday night that his fleet was in dire shape.

Missing teens found safe in North Carolina

Two Habersham teenagers who were missing for 23 days were found in Asheville, N.C., by police Sunday night. Joseph Attard and Dorothy Krei disappeared from their homes sometime in the early morning hours of Sept. 17.

County opens bids for old courthouse

Habersham County will finally get a chance to see who wants to put their money up to redevelop the old courthouse site after many years of indecision about what to do with it. The Habersham County Development Authority (HCDA) approved the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) at its meeting last week.

Habersham among elite in graduation rates once again

Habersham County Schools’ graduation rate for 2022 ranks No. 10 in the state for traditional school systems. The school system’s 4-year graduation rate — which includes both Habersham Central and Habersham Success Academy — was at 97.5 percent, down just a tenth of a percent from 2021’s rate.
