Residents unsettled with potential tax increase

Habersham County leaders were on the hotseat Monday night as they tried to explain the potential 1 mill tax hike that will be voted on next week to residents who came to express their dismay.

Chop shop suspect arrested

A man sought by law enforcement in three counties was apprehended by Gwinnett County Police. Henry Parker Whitley, 30, of Lawrenceville was captured after three weeks on the run at a car dealership at the Mall of Georgia.

Development Authority set to take bids on old courthouse

The Habersham County Development Authority will consider an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with Habersham County to facilitate the sale of the old courthouse property. The Development Authority’s next meeting is 3:30 p.m.

Airport flight school finally approved

Longtime airport tenant Michelle Curcio has finally been approved by the Habersham County Airport Commission for commercial use of airport facilities to operate a flight instruction school, pending approval by the county.
