Ciera’s husband back in jail

Xavier Breland Jr. found himself back in jail Friday in Fulton County almost as quickly as he got out. Breland was found not guilty in a stalking case in Coweta County earlier this month and released from prison on Aug. 16.

Piedmont welcomes largest freshman class ever

Last week, Piedmont University welcomed students back to campus for the fall semester, including a freshman class said to be the largest in the school’s 125-year history, though its size isn’t the only significant feature of the new cohort of more than 300 students.

James Robert (Jim) Patton of Clarkesville recently received a Quilt of Valor in recognition of his distinguished military service. Patton is a retired Petty Officer First Class with more than 20 years active duty with the United States Navy.

Former Georgia First Lady Sandra Deal died from breast cancer that metastasized into brain cancer today at her home in Demorest, surrounded by Gov. Nathan Deal and their family.    Mrs. Deal was 80 years old.
