Compelled to serve

It was Sept. 11, 2001. Habersham County resident Edwin Hendrick was working as a doctor at his medical practice in Demorest when one of his nurses came into the room, her face pale and stricken with a look of definite fear. A plane had crashed into one of the World Trade Center buildings, she said.

Prince leads TFS cross country runners

Evan Prince finished seventh overall at the AT&T Starr’s Mill Panther Meet in Fayetteville on Saturday morning to lead the Tallulah Falls cross country teams. The boys had a couple finish with personal records. The boys finished 22nd overall, while the varsity girls came in 25th.

Lanier gets back at Habersham softball

Habersham Central’s softball team continued their streak of alternating wins and losses last Thursday with a 6-3 loss to the Lanier Longhorns, who they beat by a run at home just the day before. The loss puts them at 7-5 overall and 2-2 in Region 8-6A play.

Lady Raiders split home tri-match

The Habersham Central Lady Raiders volleyball team split their tri-match games last Thursday, Sept. 2, bringing their record to an impressive 8-3 on the season. They lost in straight sets to the Dawson County Tigers – losing 25-19 in the first and 25-20 in the second – in their first match.

Crime rate steady; Drugs, family violence up

The crime rate in Habersham County this year shows a similar picture as 2020, as the number of crimes committed is set to more or less align with figures recorded in the 12 months of the COVID-19 lockdown last year.
