Baldwin holds line on proposed millage rate

Baldwin City Council members voted to proceed with the reading of a millage rate rollback Monday.
The 4-1 decision comes after an Aug. 16 meeting when council members had voted unanimously to proceed with the ordinance reading which would keep the millage rate at 7.504.

Former fire chief Ranalli to challenge for Demorest mayor

Ken Ranalli is taking another shot at serving Demorest, as the former fire chief added his name to the ballot to challenge Jerry Harkness for the right to be the city’s next mayor.
Ranalli resigned as fire chief June 1 after 10 years on the job, citing difficulties dealing with city leadership.

Couple busted for chase, drugs

A couple moving through Habersham County in two separate vehicles were arrested in the early hours of Monday morning, with one man leading a chase at 130-plus mph and his girlfriend allegedly transporting methamphetamine and heroin with children in the car.
