Hero dog gives life to save her family

   Around 5 a.m. Monday morning, the Wade family was awakened by their dog Madea, who was barking loudly.    Alexis Wade went to check on her infant son and immediately saw flames when she walked out of the room.

Piedmont professor brings hope to native country

   Piedmont University Prof. Marcella Davies can usually be found teaching nursing students at the school’s Athens or Demorest campus on any given day of the week.

Prince wins quadrathalon again

Tallulah Falls held the 16th Annual Cross Country Quadrathalon Tuesday, with senior Evan Prince beating last year’s mark to win for the third time in a row. About a mile north of the school on 441, the event took place at Tallulah Gorge, with the beach being beside the lake.

Lady Raiders split in home tri-match

Habersham Central took one of two in their home doubleheader Tuesday. In the first match, they defeated Lumpkin County (3-6) 25-13, 19-17, after falling in the first set 16-25. In the second match, the third in the tri-match series, they lost to Gainesville (6-5) 21-25, 14-25.

Habersham Central plays its home opener Friday, needing to be physical yet disciplined against an old region foe’s misdirection. “I think a team like Apalachee, if you’re hesitant at all, then they can make you look silly,” Raiders coach Benji Harrison said.

New waterline in Baldwin

A waterline distribution line is being installed in the City of Baldwin on Old Cleveland Road and Level Grove Road. The city currently shares the waterline with the City of Demorest as a way of transmission, according to Derick Canupp with Habersham County’s Public Works Department.
