Pitts gets the nod to lead Clarkesville Elementary

The Habersham County Board of Education named Georgia Pitts as the new principal of Clarkesville Elementary School on Monday.  “She is a very capable leader and she believes in our mission of success for all students,” said Superintendent Matthew Cooper at Monday night’s board of education meeting.

‘Super-talented’ state champion - Woodville student shines with award-winning poem

For the first time in more than a year, the Habersham County Board of Education welcomed a set of parents and students to a board meeting on Monday — and for a very special reason.

Gas shortage hits Georgia in wake of pipeline shutdown

Gas prices rose toward $3 Monday morning in locations across Northeast Georgia and several stations were out of gas or down to the bare minimum in the wake of the Colonial Pipeline shutdown over the weekend.

‘I’ll take the heat’ - Sheriff gets his deputies raises, takes blame if taxes rise

For a minute, it looked like the county commissioners were not sold on Sheriff Joey Terrell’s pleas for help with getting his men and women a desperately-needed pay increase. With many of his deputies standing in the back of the courtroom, Terrell laid it out for the commissioners.

Behrends heading for Berry

For Parker Behrends, it was the welcoming, family atmosphere that pulled him to Berry College.  “They kind of reached out to me, and as soon as I got there it was immediately welcoming. That was the main decision,” Behrends said.

Raiders spring into action

After having spring football cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the echoes of whistles and pads popping have been welcome additions to the air in and around Raider Stadium this spring.
