Clarkesville awaits details on American Rescue Plan

Clarkesville City Manager Keith Dickerson gave an update on the American Rescue Plan, a $242 billion federal recovery package distributed to states, territories and local governments with the intent of countering the economic damage inflicted on communities by the COVID-19 pandemic through 2020.

Baldwin sticks with Norton protection

The Baldwin City Council convened for a special meeting on Friday to consider whether to retain Norton as the city’s current liability insurance provider or to purchase insurance through the Georgia Interlocal Risk Management Agency known as GIRMA.

Freak lightning strike fries water pipe

A freak lightning strike Tuesday morning on Jim Thomas Road hit a tree, dug a trench through the woods and melted part of a water pipe before shooting out the other side after traveling around 150 feet. “I had never seen anything like this,” Demorest Public Works Director Brian Popham said.

Sutton denies prior knowledge of employee’s past - Airport coordinator’s record questioned at county’s April 19 closed-door meeting

County Manager Phil Sutton denied claims Monday that he had prior dealings with the county’s airport coordinator, who was convicted of bribery in 2015 stemming from his time as the public works director for the city of Monroe.

Baldwin Fire gets iPads

Baldwin City Council members recognized a $3,000 grant from FM Global Foundation for the purchase of three iPads for the Baldwin Fire Department at their meeting April 26. Police Chief Matt Nall also went before the council and presented recent statistics of speed zones.
